Meet Our International Engineering Ambassador – Nomah Habeeb

Why did you choose your course?

I wanted to study a course which works at the interface of medicine and technology, Bioengineering was the perfect option and university of Sheffield was one of the fewer universities that offered this course with flexibility of choosing different specialisations. The university is amongst the top 100 and has an extraordinary reputation in research, and since my course is mostly based on research, choosing university of Sheffield was the best option.

What have you enjoyed most about your course so far?

I love how bioengineering covers all aspects of engineering, ranging from electrical and mechanical to nanotechnology and materials.I like how every other module gives insight to solving the problems facing healthcare to bridge the gap between medicine and engineering. It’s a fast paced degree with lots of exciting activities, research and innovation going on.I enjoy the usage of diverse labs throughout my degree.

What do you think about Sheffield as a city?

Sheffield is a beautiful green city with vibrant street art around the town.People here are always warm and welcoming. There’s a huge student population in the city with a large number of international students. It’s a lively city with lots of activities going on and also has one of the largest shopping centres, Meadowhall. There are beautiful meuseums and art galleries around the place, and not forgetting the Peak District.

What would you say to a younger student if they are considering studying engineering/science/maths at university?

I would encourage and motivate them, by highlighting that they could solve global problems across the world with STEM majors. In this way, they could have an impact and contribute towards the betterment of the society. I would also say that although it may seem complex at first, eventually the degree will be worth it.
